Important Championship Meet Information

Please Read – All Championship Meet Opt-Outs are Due Monday 1/30 at 6:00 PM

Time to focus on the Championship Meets.

1/28 UPDATE – The host teams changed the times for the A Meets, only by a little bit.  Please see the updated times below.

How to determine which Championship Meet your swimmer is attending (read carefully – it’s confusing, we know!):

  • All swimmers who competed in at least 1 regular season meet will compete in a Championship Meet.
  • Your swimmer will compete in only one Championship Meet – A or B.
  • If your swimmer is 13 or over, he or she will attend the A Meet.
  • If your swimmer is on this A Meet Qualifier list, he or she will attend the A Meet.
  • If your swimmer is 12 or under and not on the list of A Meet qualifiers, he or she will attend the B meet.

Note:  The A Meet is split over 2 days depending on age.

Here are the dates and locations for the Championship Meets.  If your swimmer cannot participate, we need to know by Monday 1/30 at 6:00 PM.

More Meet Information

  • Because they include so many teams, the conference meets are run differently than regular dual meets.  We will be competing with 8 other teams in our half of the West Michigan Swim League.  This also means they run a little longer – so be prepared.
  • At the B meet, there is no medley relay, only a freestyle relay.  Swimmers are allowed to swim 1 relay and 2 individual events.  However, each team may only enter 1 relay, so only 4 swimmers in each age/gender group will swim in a relay.
  • Everyone will be entered in their 2 individual events.
  • Swimmers may only swim events for which they have a seed time.
  • Because there are several officials at conference meets, disqualifications will be called on the technical aspects of each stroke, i.e., illegal kicks (common in breaststroke and butterfly).  Therefore, most swimmers will be entered in freestyle and backstroke events.
  • Last year NCST won the B meet, so we are looking forward to repeating!
  • Generally, the Championship Meet signals the end of practices for your athlete – watch for End of Season Party information – scheduled for 2/15.

1/27 Home Meet Entries (Friday!)

Please write Your Swimmer’s Event Numbers on His or Her Hand or Arm for Friday Night.

Here is the event line up for tomorrow night’s home swim meet against Calvin.   However, there always will be last minute changes due to illnesses and other unforeseen circumstances.

Please write your swimmer’s event numbers on his or her hand or arm ahead of time.  The coaches will be organizing the team, so please have your swimmer ready.

Parents, show your support by wearing your black or red NCST Parent shirt.

Volunteers and donaters, check your email for reminders.  Thanks for helping out!  You rock!  Seriously we mean it.  This season we have had amazing volunteer turn out!

Please note – after this meet, there is a very tight turnaround for the Championship meets.  NCST has to submit our entries Monday night, so depending on how this last home meet goes for your swimmer we’ll need to know if you are attending the championship meet this weekend.

Watch for the results email on Saturday with the A Meet Qualifiers.

Coaches Corner

Here are some thoughts from our head coach she asked us to pass along

Parents, as we continue to develop your swimmers, there are a few items of protocol that you can help us with.

  • Stay until the end of the meet.  Our middle school and Varsity swimmers have provided a great deal of assistance and leadership.  They lead the cheers, help with marshalling, and cheer on the younger swimmers.  They deserve to have an audience cheering them on.  Besides, they often model the higher level skills that we are trying to teach in practice.
  • Relays:  Swimmers should climb up on the starting block only after the person before them completes their turn at the opposite end (passes halfway).  Although they must exit the pool immediately after swimming their leg, they should stay with their relay teams, cheering and offering congratulations, until the race is over.
  • Individual events:  Swimmers should stay in the water until all competitors in the heat have finished.  A handshake or high five to the competitors on each side is a show of good sportsmanship
  • Always find a coach after your swim.  We may not see every race, but chances are, we have something to say!
  • Be respectful and conscientious with saving seats in the stands.  If you aren’t using seats, free them up for people to sit down.

1/27 Home Meet Info

If you can’t make it this weekend, you must let us know by 6:30 PM tonight!!

The next couple weeks will be fast and furious as we have some really tight deadlines on the Championship meet entries.

A couple reminders –

  1. No practice this Thursday
  2. Next Home Meet is Friday night – see below for details
    1. This your last chance to qualify for the A meet.  Make sure you listen to your coaches this week and eat a good healthy family dinner Thursday night.
    2. We need to restock the concession stand for a Friday night meet.
  3. If you can’t make it to the meet, please let us know before Monday (1/23/17) at 6:30 PM.
  4. Make sure you pick up your ribbons after practices this week.
  5. Since the meet is Friday night, sleep in Saturday.  You earned it!

Here’s the results from today’s meet.  Great job all around!

1/27 Home Meet Information

Next week’s meet is home vs Calvin.

Remember, this is a Friday night meet!
Warm Up:  5:30 PM
Check In Ends: 5:45 PM
Meet Starts: 6:30 PM

1 – Unable to Participate

All registered swimmers (as of 1/23/2017 at 6:00 PM) will be entered into the meet. You must let us know if your athlete will not be participating.

Swimmers not showing up will affect relay teams (3 other swimmers) so it is imperative that you let us know if your athlete is not participating by 6:30 PM on 1/16/2017.  This isn’t like RSVPing to a family party, if we don’t have an accurate participation count, other swimmers will lose chances to swim.

By 6:30 PM on 1/23/2017, let us know your swimmer is unable to participate.

We are unable to attend the 1/27 Home Meet

2 – Volunteers

We have several volunteer needs to help keep our swim meets running smoothly.  Please consider signing up to help the team out on Friday, January 27, 2017.

Never helped before? No problem, we will train you, help you and thank you profusely!

Clean Up Crew, Timers, Marshalers and Greeters… they are all easy jobs.

I can volunteer!

3 – Restock the Concession Stand

We need to restock!  One way we keep our registration fee low for NCST is by generating revenue from our home meet concessions. Unlike the normal school sports concessions where items are purchased, marked up, and then sold, The NCST relies on items that are purchased and donated by you the parents of the team. This way, your contribution of a box of candy or bag of apples is magnified and really helps the team.

Click the link below for a list of things we need for the coming meet(s). Please sign up for at least one of the items, or more if you are able : ). If you are short on time and do not have time to run out and pick something up we will also take cash donations that we can use to purchase what we need. Please bring your donations to the pool deck during practice. We have a great tradition of support by the team parents and it makes a huge difference so thank you very much!

I can donate!

NCST is a 501(c)(3) corporation and your donations may be tax deductible.

In addition, we are looking for volunteers to help run the concession stand as well as apprentices to learn the concession stand operations.

4 – Actual Meet Information

Friday Night Meet!

Home Meet – NCST vs Calvin
5:15 PM – Swimmers – Highlight your name at check in and report on deck to your coaches ready to swim
5:30 PM – Swimmer warm up begins
5:45 PM – Swimmers who have not checked in will be scratched – prompt!

Swimmers Bags & Lost and Found

Hey Parents, please check your swimmer’s bags for items that are not yours.

We have several reports of  missing or mixed up items. Many of the swimsuits look very similar but sizes get mixed up when the athletes are packing up.  Please check that the suits you have are the correct sizes.

Thanks!

1/21 Home Meet Results

WOW!

A tied Age Group meet is pretty amazing.  With so many athletes competing in so many events it crazy to that the score ended 476 points to 476 points.  Great job NCST and East Grand Rapids.  Coach Rob (the High School Varsity Coach) said he doesn’t think he has ever seen that before – and maybe never will again.

Also, thanks to all the volunteers who help run the meet, work the concession stand and help clean up afterwards.  Please know we truly appreciate your help.  I also want to thank the people who donate to the concession stand.  All proceeds from the concession stand go directly to the NCST program thanks to your generous donations.
