We Made It!

First week of practices done.  I have a weekend in view so this email is going to be short and to the point.  But lots of details inside:

1. Practice on Monday is cancelled.
Sorry, totally missed that the High School has Winter Sports Introduction Meetings Fall Sports Awards Banquets all night long.  The Team Calendar is the place to watch.

2. Tuesday Night Parent Meeting
6:15 in the Athletic Classroom by the pool lobby.

3. Check it Out Swimmers
If you haven’t registered for the team yet, please do so online.  To participate in practices athletes must be registered for the team.

4. Kentwood Invitational
We haven’t heard any details on the invitational from them yet.  So I am going to casually slide this over to the maybe column.  If we get details and can pull registration together we’ll go for it.  Remember, invitationals are optional and the entry fees are not covered with your team registration.

5. Mannequin Challenge Video
Last night the Gold Training Group made a Mannequin Challenge Video.  We’ll also be submitting this to Swim Outlet contest and will be asking for your help in voting.

See you on Tuesday!

Frequently Asked Questions from the First Night of Practice

Wow, what a turn out huh?  The first week of each season tends to be pretty crazy but it will settle down.

We fielded a bunch of questions last night, thought everyone might like to hear some of the answers.

1. Yowzers, the team looks huge this year!  How many swimmers signed up?
As of this morning, we are at 140 swimmers.  We have another dozen or so checking us out this week to see if they want to join.  Last year we had 128 swimmers.

2. And it looks like there are lots of new swimmers?
We don’t have official counts, but it looked like about 54 swimmers attended New Swimmer Evaluation.  (Some were returning swimmers who were just eager to get in the pool.)  For the first time, we have Varsity Girls swim team members continue training past their regular season with us.  Actually, the majority of the Northview Varsity Freshman Girls are now on NCST.

We’re very excited about the team.  It’s great to see the program grow with new swimmers coming on board and returning swimmers coming back.

3. When will the Early Bird Swim Caps be in?
We ordered them as soon as possible after the cut off.  The vendor estimated around Thanksgiving, but was very busy with High School teams conferences and finals.  We’re hoping soon.  If your swimmer wants a generic Northview swim cap, we have them in the pool office for $5. (cash only.)

4. Practice four days a week?
Yes, NCST offers practices Monday through Thursday.  The more time your swimmer spends in the water, the faster he or she will get.  We know you won’t be able to make every practice.  Pay attention to the team calendar.  There are cancellations for holidays and other swim teams having meets at the pool.

Have other questions or concerns?  Drop us an email!

Still Haven’t Signed Up?

If you haven’t signed up yet, or are on the Check it Out list and ready to sign up, sign up online.  We will be ordering the team shirts (and parent shirts) on December 1st.

New Swimmer Evaluation Details

Hey New Swimmers!

Boy are we excited to have you!  Here’s some details for Wednesday Night.

This is a drop in night.  Plan on about 15 minutes. We’ll have coaches available from 6:00 PM – about 7:15 PM.

Show up, ready to swim.  Bring a suit, towel and goggles.  Please use the girls, boys or family locker room as appropriate.

Coaches will ask the swimmer to show his or her stuff.  Don’t stress about it.  If your athlete doesn’t know a stroke, the coach may be able to offer some guidance depending on time.  We’ll be able to teach proper strokes during the season.

Your swimmer must be able to compete in the distances for his or her age group:

  1. Swimmers competing 8 & under – swim 25 yards unassisted
  2. Swimmers competing 9 & up – swim at least 50 yards unassisted

Coaches will determine which practice level is appropriate for your athlete.  Gold, Silver or Bronze.  Coaches will give you an assignment at the end of your evaluation.  Please also note, you may be asked to change practice groups during the season.

Returning NCST Swimmers are also welcome to attend if you are unsure which practice group is appropriate for your swimmer’s skill level.
