1/14 Home Meet Information

Next week’s meet is home vs GRNSA.

1 – Registration/Unable to Participate

All registered swimmers (as of 1/9/2017 at 6:00 PM) will be entered into the meet. You must let us know if your athlete will not be participating.

Swimmers not showing up will affect relay teams (3 other swimmers) so it is imperative that you let us know if your athlete is not participating by 6:30 PM on 1/9/2017.  This isn’t like RSVPing to a family party, if we don’t have an accurate participation count, other swimmers will lose chances to swim.

By 6:40 PM on 1/9/2017, let us know your swimmer is unable to participate.

We are unable to attend the 1/14 Home Meet

2 – Volunteers

We have several volunteer needs to help keep our swim meets running smoothly.  Please consider signing up to help the team out on Saturday, January 14, 2017.

Never helped before? No problem, we will train you, help you and thank you profusely!

Clean Up Crew, Timers, Marshalers and Greeters… they are all easy jobs.

Please write your swimmer’s event numbers on his or her hand or arm tonight.  The coaches will be organizing the team, so please have your swimmer ready.

Parents, show your support by wearing your black or red NCST Parent shirt.

Volunteers, check your email for reminders.  Thanks for volunteering!  You rock!

First Timer?  Here’s some more information

Make sure your swimmer arrives with ample time to check-in and warm-up.

Check-in: 7:30 am
Your swimmer must check in so that the event coordinators know he or she is there.  If your swimmer does not check in, he or she will be scratched from the events.

Check in is either with a person at a desk or you highlight your name on a list – it depends on location.  Go with the flow when you arrive, you’ll figure it out.

Once checked in, swimmers proceed to the locker room and swim deck and find your team and Coach.  The team generally sits together and cheers each other on.  Parents up to the balcony to watch.

Your athlete will want 2 towels, one to sit on, one to dry off with.  Healthy snacks is a good idea, remind them to clean up after themselves.  Something to entertain themselves between events may be a good idea – electronics are discouraged (it’s a wet pool after all.)

Don’t forget your goggles!  In fact, bring an extra pair if you have them.

Warm-up: 8:00 am
Coaches will warm up the athletes.

Check in Cut Off: 8:15 am
Any swimmers who have not checked in by 8:15am will be scratched from the meet.

Meet Starts: 9:00 am
Once the meet starts, athletes need to listen for their events to be called.  They will be marshaled ahead of time to keep the meet moving.

This is where it helps for the swimmer to have event numbers written on his or her arm.  Note, we won’t know the heat and lane numbers until the day of the meet.  So, just write the event number, distance and stroke on your athlete’s arm.

Remind your swimmer they are representing themselves, our school and our community.  Be respectful of the facility and other swimmers.  Cheer their teammates on and have fun!  Swimmers should focus on improving on their own times and this is a for fun invitational.

Don’t forget to read our First Timer guide online too.  Especially the part about Heats and Events (your swimmer may win a heat, but not the overall event.  Some events have many heats.)

Friday Practice Next Week

Because of the Varsity swim meets next week we only have 2 regular practices.

So to fill in, we’re going to have a clinic on Friday the 13th!  That’s right a, folks, a Black Cat Friday the 13th Clinic.

This clinic will be from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM for all age groups and will focus exclusively on fast starts, great flip turns and astounding finishes! This is clinic is optional if you want to work on these skills.

Important – Locker Room Behavior

We’re continuing to get reports of inappropriate behavior in the locker rooms.

Please, talk to your athletes about appropriate locker room behavior.  This includes language, behavior, personal space and personal belongings.  Be courteous and be respectful.

We really don’t want to move to locker room shifts, that will just delay departures.  Please talk to your swimmers.

Reminder – Opt out of 1/7 Home Meet by 1/2

Before y’all get cra-cra tonight, don’t forget to sign up to volunteer for the home meet, donate to the concession stand (all proceeds go to the team), or most importantly, if you can’t participate in the first home meet, we need to know.

Thanks to all you volunteers, parents, athletes and coaches who make this program great.  We’re all looking forward to great season.  It all starts next week.

Happy New Year from NCST!

1 – Registration/Unable to Participate

All registered swimmers (as of 12/30/2016 at 6:00 PM) will be entered into the meet. You must let us know if your athlete will not be participating.

Swimmers not showing up will affect relay teams (3 other swimmers) so it is imperative that you let us know if your athlete is not participating by 6:00 PM on 1/2/2017.  This isn’t like RSVPing to a family party, if we don’t have an accurate participation count, other swimmers will lose chances to swim.

By 6:00 PM on 1/2/2017, let us know your swimmer is unable to participate.

We Cannot Participate in the 1/7 Home Swim Meet

Likewise, if your swimmer has not actually registered for the team yet, he or she will not be entered into any events. Please register by 6:00 PM on 12/30/2016.

2 – Concession Donations

One way we keep our registration fee low for NCST is by generating revenue from our home meet concessions. Unlike the normal school sports concessions where items are purchased, marked up, and then sold, The NCST relies on items that are purchased and donated by you the parents of the team. This way, your contribution of a box of candy or bag of apples is magnified and really helps the team.

Click the link below for a list of things we need for the coming meet(s). Please sign up for at least one of the items, or more if you are able : ). If you are short on time and do not have time to run out and pick something up we will also take cash donations that we can use to purchase what we need. Please bring your donations to the pool deck during practice. We have a great tradition of support by the team parents and it makes a huge difference so thank you very much!

I Can Donate Items to the Concession Stand

NCST is a 501(c)(3) corporation and your donations may be tax deductible.

In addition, we are looking for volunteers to help run the concession stand as well as apprentices to learn the concession stand operations.

Please contact Christy Pataniczek if you are able to volunteer or are interested in getting involved in concession operations.

3 – Volunteers

Lost and Found

The Lost and Found basket is overflowing again – lots of towels and goggles, and a few suits too.  Also, we have had reports of missing team suits in the boys locker room.  Please look through your swimmer’s bag.  If you find something picked up by accident, bring it to the lost and found.

Please check out the lost and found at practice

Practice Arrivals and Locker Rooms

Please try your best to get your swimmers to practice on time.  Remind them not to dawdle getting ready.  If they are going to be late to practice, please minimize the interruptions on deck.  Late arrivals are causing a distraction for some of the swimmers.

Also, please talk to your swimmers about proper locker room ettiquette.  We’ve had a couple reports of inappropriate language in the locker rooms.
