2/1/20 Home Meet Information

Next week is a home meet against Grandville.

1 – Unable to Participate

All registered swimmers (as of 1/27/20 at 6:00 PM) will be entered into the meet. You must let us know if your athlete will not be participating. Swimmers not showing up will affect relay teams (3 other swimmers) so it is imperative that you let us know if your athlete is not participating by 6:00 PM on 1/27/20. This isn’t like RSVPing to a family party, if we don’t have an accurate participation count, other swimmers will lose chances to swim. By 6:00 PM on 1/27/20, let us know your swimmer is unable to participate.

Lets sum it up one more time.  If you know your swimmer is not going to show up Saturday morning, PLEASE, PLEASE let us know.  It will make for less scrambling on our part fixing relays!

We are unable to participate in the 2/1/20 Home Meet

2 – Concession Donations

We’ll be sending out a call for donations next week.  For the 2/1 meet we’ll be keeping the concession stand open longer since there will be other events going on during the day.

We’ll see what we need after the meet to restock and send out an email to let you know.

All proceeds benefit the team!  Please bring your donations to the concession stand when your swimmer checks in.

NCST is a 501(c)(3) corporation and your donations may be tax deductible.

3 – Volunteers

We have several volunteer needs to help keep our swim meets running smoothly.  Please consider signing up to help the team out on Saturday.

Never helped before? No problem, we will train you, help you and thank you profusely!

Clean Up Crew, Timers, Marshalers and Greeters… they are all easy jobs.

We’ll need extra help in the Concession Stand on 2/1.  There are multiple events going on that day and we’ll be keeping the concession stand open later.  All proceeds benefit NCST.

Planning Ahead for the Championship Meets

Please Read – All Championship Meet Opt-Outs are Due Monday by 2/3 6:00 PM

Time to focus on the Championship Meets.

How to determine which Championship Meet your swimmer is attending (read carefully – it’s confusing, we know!):

  • All swimmers who competed in at least 1 regular season meet will compete in a Championship Meet.
  • Your swimmer will compete in only one Championship Meet – either the A or B.
  • If your swimmer is 13 or over, he or she will attend the A meet.
  • 15 and over cannot compete in the Championship Meets (sorry this is a league rule.)
  • If your swimmer is 12 or under and not on the list of A meet qualifiers, he or she will attend the B meet.
  • A meets are away meets – see locations.
  • The B meet is at home, and we will need more help than usual!  More information below.

Opt-outs for the Championships are
due Monday, 2/3 by 6:00 PM ET.

More Meet Information

  • Because they include so many teams, the conference meets are run differently than regular dual meets.  We will be competing with 8 other teams in our half of the West Michigan Swim League.  This also means they run a little longer – so be prepared.
  • At the B meet, there is no medley relay, only a freestyle relay.  Swimmers are allowed to swim 1 relay and 2 individual events.  However, each team may only enter 1 relay, so only 4 swimmers in each age/gender group will swim in a relay.
  • Everyone will be entered in their 2 individual events.
  • Swimmers may only swim events for which they have a seed time.
  • Because there are several officials at conference meets, disqualifications will be called on the technical aspects of each stroke, i.e., illegal kicks (common in breaststroke and butterfly).  Therefore, most swimmers will be entered in freestyle and backstroke events.
  • Generally, the Championship Meet signals the end of practices for your athlete – watch for End of Season Party information.

We Need Volunteers for the B Meet!

We need more volunteers than usual!  For the Championships we need twice as many timers (two per lane, so sign up with a friend!)

And the Northview Athletic Boosters is graciously allowing us to run the concession stand for the B Meet.  But… there are also other sporting events going on this day that may run later than our meet.  That means we will be able to sell concessions for these other events and all proceeds go to NCST.Never helped before? No problem, we will train you, help you and thank you profusely!

Clean Up Crew, Timers, Marshalers and Greeters… they are all easy jobs.

1/25/20 Home Meet Info & Entries

Thanks to everyone who participated and helped with the Virtual Meet last night.  Sorry it went a little long.  Because we didn’t do a formal opt-out, we didn’t really have an opportunity to combine the meet.  Saturday’s meet should be much faster.  West Ottawa is running their meet this weekend, once we merge the results we’ll have final results for all of y’all.

Alright, this weekend.  Are you crossing your fingers?  I’m looking at you.  They crossed?

Home meet on Saturday.  Be there or be square.

Make sure you write your swimmer’s events on his or her hand or arm (See below for details).

Oh, you’re a First Timer?  Here’s some more information

Make sure your swimmer arrives with ample time to check-in and warm-up.

Check-in
Your swimmer must check in so that the event coordinators know he or she is there.  If your swimmer does not check in, he or she will be scratched from the events.

Check in is either with a person at a desk or you highlight your name on a list – it depends on location.  Go with the flow when you arrive, you’ll figure it out.

Once checked in, swimmers proceed to the locker room and swim deck and find your team and Coach.  The team generally sits together and cheers each other on.  Parents up to the balcony to watch.

Your athlete will want 2 towels, one to sit on, one to dry off with.  Healthy snacks is a good idea, remind them to clean up after themselves.  Something to entertain themselves between events may be a good idea – electronics are discouraged (it’s a wet pool after all.)

Don’t forget your goggles!  In fact, bring an extra pair if you have them.

Warm-up
Coaches will warm up the athletes.

Check in Cut Off
Any swimmers who have not checked in will be scratched from the meet.

Meet Starts
Once the meet starts, athletes need to listen for their events to be called.  They will be marshaled ahead of time to keep the meet moving.

This is where it helps for the swimmer to have event numbers written on his or her arm.  Note, we won’t know the heat and lane numbers until the day of the meet.  So, just write the event number, distance and stroke on your athlete’s arm.

Please do this the night before, this is a parent’s responsibility.  Coaches will be occupied warming the swimmers up.

Write the events on your swimmer's arm

For example, this swimmer is swimming event #4, a 200 yard relay (that is what the R is), he is in the B relay and will be crushing the fly stroke.  He is also swimming event #16, the 100 yard individual medley.  Then finishing the day in event #24, the 50 yard free.  Event numbers are not the same for every meet – so double check.  Also note in the background, this swimmer’s parents pestered him enough to lay out his swim bag, competition suit, goggles and comfy clothes for after the meet so he was all ready to go in the morning.

Remind your swimmer they are representing themselves and our community.  Be respectful of the facility and other swimmers – clean up before they leave.  Cheer their teammates on and have fun!  Swimmers should focus on improving on their own times and contributing to the team overall.

Don’t forget to read our First Timer guide online too.  Especially the part about Heats and Events (your swimmer may win a heat, but not the overall event.  Some events have many heats.)

Good luck everyone!

1/22/20 Practice Change

We’re going to try a Virtual Meet on Wednesday.  What this means is we’ll run a meet with just our swimmers and merge the results with another team doing the same thing.

That means all swimmers – all training groups should arrive at 6:00 PM for Warm Up.  They need to check in at the table.

We’ll be making the meet on the fly.  There will *not* be heat sheets.

We hope the meet can start around 6:30 or 6:45.  It’ll likely be less than 2 hours long.

We will need timers.  If you are willing to time, please meet outside the pool office at 6:15.  Please do not come into the pool office, we’ll be diligently working to make the meet.

Also note, since we’ll be merging the results with another team, you will not see final placement results until this is completed.  it may not be until the end of the month.

IF YOU KNOW YOU WILL NOT BE HERE WEDNESDAY, PLEASE RESPOND TO THIS EMAIL WITH YOUR SWIMMERS NAME!

Your entries will be listed below.

Locker Room Behavior

We’re continuing to get reports of inappropriate behavior in the locker rooms.

Please, talk to your athletes about appropriate locker room behavior.  This includes language, behavior, personal space and personal belongings.  Be courteous and be respectful.
